Route 66:

  • Route:  2,451 miles from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA
  • Description: Also known as "Will Rodgers Highway," this iconic two-lane highway travels through 8 states and was one of the original highways in the US (established in 1926).  Although it officially no longer exists, you can still piece it together on this map.

Great River Road:

  • Route: 2,069 miles from Minnesota to Louisiana
  • Description:  It runs along the mighty Mississippi River through 10 states from Minnesota down to the Gulf of Mexico.  You'll pass through hundreds of river towns where you can explore their culture, history, food, and music. 

Million Dollar Highway:

  • Route: 305 miles from Silverton to Ouray, Colorado
  • Description: This breath-taking section of US Highway 550 climbs more than 2 miles above sea level and provides countless scenic vistas through the San Juan Mountain area of the Rockies.

Black River Scenic Byway:

  • Route: 12 miles in Ottawa National Forest (Michigan)
  • Description: Running along the Black River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it goes by several amazing waterfalls, thick forests, and expansive Lake Superior vistas.

The Loneliest Road:

  • Route: 409 miles across Nevada
  • Description: This section of US Highway 50 follows the old Pony Express route.  It skitrs mining camps & old ghost towns, crosses mountain ranges covered with juniper & pine forests, and goes by Great Basin National Park.
